A word from business owner,

Tim Wright

“Unfortunately, a bad paint job is costly, and it won’t last”

Hi, my name is Tim Wright. I started my career in the industry by flipping properties 20 years ago. I have since purchased and renovated countless homes before becoming a licensed painter and handyman service servicing Campbelltown and all Adelaide.

I established Adelaide Home Painting with open and honest communication at the core of my service delivery. I’m committed to providing clients with high quality paint work that will add value to their property.

In my experience, a main problem many customers face is understanding why paint quotes can vary so significantly for what appears to be “the same job”. Very simply, there are certain short cuts that can be taken and as a result property owners get disappointed when they see peeling paint and cracks within months.

With painting, it’s all about the process, technique, and quality of paint. A quality paint job will last you 10+ years and save you money long-term.

This is why I’ll always take the time to explain our process, what we are doing, and why.

I understand how important it is to build trust, ensure the client is always updated and informed, and of course provide a workmanship guarantee. This has been the driving force of Adelaide Home Painting,  and this is my commitment to you.

Deck Painting and Maintenance During Summer

Spring is here, the days are warming up fast, and Adelaide residents are getting excited about spending time outdoors without the extra 2 or 3 layers of clothing. Unfortunately, wind, hail, and frosty weather have been brutal on outdoor furniture and decks.

After a few months of neglect, it’s time to get your deck ready for summer with a bit of TLC. Use these tips from your Adelaide painter to ensure your deck is ready for summer fun.

Wash your deck to remove contaminants

The first step to deck maintenance is to pressure wash your deck. Pressure washing is by far the most efficient method for preparing your deck for a fresh coat of paint or stain. It’s also the best way to ensure every speck of dirt, dust, debris, mould, and mildew is removed.

Use a putty knife to scrape off all the debris caught between the boards. Debris build-up between the planks can soak up and store moisture, which can lead to wood rot.

Stain, seal, or paint your deck

An annual or bi-annual pressure washing should be followed with a fresh coat of stain, sealant, or paint. Wood is durable, but it is vulnerable to the elements.

High-quality deck stains, paints, and sealants ensure your deck can shrug off moisture and prevent UV rays from penetrating deep into the wood. If you are not an experienced painter or don’t know where to start, an Adelaide painter can help you out.

Remove rusty nails

Rusty nails degrade and will eventually lead to loose boards that make your deck unsafe. Rust can also spread through the fresh paint or sealant and ruin its appearance.

Replace damaged wood

Any areas of your deck that have succumbed to the elements will need replacing. Rotting, cracked floorboards or damaged railings are safety hazards that can cause nasty accidents.

Neutralise the surface

Constant exposure to the elements darkens the wood and gives it an old, weathered appearance. The grey shades are due to the sun’s UV rays breaking down the wood’s surface, but an oxalic acid wash will soon have your deck looking like new.

Oxalic acid is a component of many plants and has natural wood-bleaching properties. You will need to take appropriate safety precautions when using these products, but they are safe to use around homes. Make sure you rinse the deck using a hose with a power nozzle to remove every trace of the wash.

Adelaide Painter Tips -Problems Caused by DIY Paint Jobs

Painting a house might seem straightforward, but experience can mean the difference between a great job and one where you wish you had opted for a professional. It’s a lot more complicated than it looks.

Here are a few reasons to consider hiring an experienced Adelaide painter to spruce up your home.

Choosing the right paint

Getting the correct type of paint onto your walls will ensure you have a lasting paint job that looks great for a long time. You have a wide selection to choose from, such as matte, satin, semi-gloss, high-gloss, and oil and water-based varieties. Each type will create a different look for the room, so careful selection is necessary to achieve the desired result.

Water-based paints are easier to work with and require much less work when cleaning up. Good quality brands will resist yellowing and cracking.

On the other hand, oil-based paints require more experience to get a nice finish and clean up at the end of the day can be a pain because you need copious volumes of mineral spirits. They also have a strong odour and take longer to dry. However, in the right hands, nothing beats the smooth, level finish of an oil-based paint, which will also last longer.

Experienced painters will know what type of paint to use and where, so you can be sure you will get the best result for your home.

Save time on preparation

The difference between a good paint job and a poor one lies in the preparation. Many DIYers are unfamiliar with how involved the preparation process is for a particular surface. As a result, the paint does not go on as well as it should, and it doesn’t last anywhere near as long as it should.

Proper preparation is a labour-intensive job requiring experience with a range of tools. All surfaces must be cleaned thoroughly, and cracks and holes filled and sanded smooth. A professional knows how to get through preparation quickly and efficiently, so you’ll save yourself a lot of weekends with an experienced painting service.

Enjoy a better results

Getting just the right amount of paint on with every stroke is a practised skill. Adelaide homeowners who DIY are often forced to put up with visible streaks, roller marks, runs, drips, and uneven coverage for years before it’s time to paint again. Rough paint jobs can also make it harder to attract offers on your property as potential buyers wonder what else you may have done yourself to save a few dollars.

Save money

You may think you are saving money by doing it yourself, but it often backfires. For starters, you’ve got the cost of the tools and paint, and cheaper is rarely better.
